Few things provoke such powerful feelings of fear and intimidation as journal writing. Achieving the goal — noting the ordinary and extraordinary events in life — is often hampered by fretting over subject matter, grammar, spelling and even handwriting. Friends and L.A.-based Felice Willat and Ilene Segalove have taken the worry out of the process with the “Woman’s Book of Changes,” a beautifully bound-loose-guide and journal that’s much more than a handholding device. It’s also a lot less touch-feely than it sounds.

The 80's came and went, watching so many of us trying - some more successfully than others - to organize our lives so that we could cram as much in as possible into a day. At that time, the emphasis was on doing, doing, doing. And a binder-like marvel called the "Day Runner," was what kept us organized, productive, in control and sane - in an 80's sort of way. It was a bible to many. I know a woman who felt as if her life had ended when she realized she had driven off with her Day Runner resting on the roof of her car - never to be seen again. Sane and in control one minute, completely lost and frazzled the next.

"Sanity" looks different to many of us now - a difference holding profound possibilities for us. We've come to realize that sanity includes not doing. It also includes reflecting, simplifying, spending time within. And so the woman who created the Day Runner, Felice Willat, continued on her life's journey, passing milestones both joyous and tumultuous; she (along with her partner Ilene Segalove) created Woman's Book of Changes in order to meet the needs of those of us who know that to be sane and healthy we must find a way to be with our deepest selves.

This lovely book is a gentle reminder to stay connected to ourselves, discover our inner wisdom, creativity and purpose, especially during times of change. It is a combination journal, spiritual companion, and in the process that it encourages, it transforms itself into a mentor.

Turn and face the strange…ch-ch-changes. It’s a pity that Albert Einstein isn’t still with us — maybe he could explain why and how it is that time seems to be speeding up. If life feels like it’s falling between the cracks of job, family, relationship, commute, gym schedule and general life maintenance, the “Woman’s Book of Changes,” by Felice Willat and Ilene Segalove may offer an opportunity to refocus and reclaim your sanity. Publisher Willat is the formidable force of nature behind the Day Runner series. Without the Day Runner (along with beeper, cell phone and water bottle), most of Los Angeles would wander the streets in yuppie befuddlement, unable to remember its next appointment. “Woman’s Book of Changes” is a guided journal, in other words, a notebook with prompts, exercises and interactive sections. The questions, tips, quotes from users and provocative passages may be a doorway into self-knowledge for any woman at any phase of life.

Testimonials

"I purchased this journal just before my 40th birthday. I confiscated my daughter's tiara and wore it all day the day of my birthday. Forty fits well!"

- C. Northey: Flagler Beach, FL

"My dearest friend Jan was diagnosed with a brain tumor and it was removed within 48 hr. at UCLA. She also has a tumor on her lung that is going to require chemo. I sent her the Today's Page Journal. The next day on my voice mail was a message from Jan thanking me with emotion in her voice that is hard to describe. By the time the message was finished I had tears running down my face. Jan has never journaled and is writing up a storm. The reason I am telling you this is to acknowledge a wonderful gift you have created. I am so thankful to be associated with someone who is helping so many people realize their Spirit. In this case Jan will leave something to her children...your journal!"

DAY RUNNER FOUNDER INTRODUCES LINE
OF WOMEN’S JOURNALS AT BOOK EXPO

(Los Angeles, CA) — The entrepreneur who filled baby boomer’s need to get organized with her best-selling Day Runner product line, will introduce the first line of comprehensive organizer journals for women to booksellers today.

“Woman’s Book of Changes” is the first interactive refillable journal to organize the complex issues women face during times of transition. Topics such as relationships, motherhood, career change, loss and separation, and midlife changes offer insight and thought-provoking writing prompts to stimulate personal expression and help make the journal writing process meaningful and easy.

Recently, journaling has become a popular antidote for today’s hectic lifestyle. It is listed as a recommended method of healing in Prevention Magazine’s dictionary of healing modalities and researchers at Southern Methodist University have found that it strengthens the immune system. “Day Runner helps us organize the many roles, goals and activities of a time-crunched era. Woman’s Book of Changes provides the tools, the place and the inspiration to take-time out for time-in, and clarify our lives from the inside out,” says Felice Willat.

The line includes four spiral-bound journals — “Woman’s Book of Reflections,” “Dreams,” Today’s Page,” and “Night & Day,” and Mood Pads — “Rage Pages,” Blue Notes,” and “Passion Sheets,” and are priced from $3,50 - $49.00.
